Where Can Homeowners Install a Ductless Mini-Split AC?

According to air conditioning service pros, ductless mini-split ACs are incredibly popular amongst homeowners due to their energy efficiency, low operating costs and ability to heat or cool your home whenever needed. However, some homeowners who plan on installing a ductless mini-split AC in their home find themselves wondering one thing: where exactly should I put it?

Below we discuss some good places for homeowners to install their ductless mini-split AC.

Where to Place the Indoor Unit

When installing a ductless mini-split AC in your home, there are two components that you need to add. The first is the indoor air handler, and it’s important that the placement of this unit comes first as it can affect where your outdoor unit will go. Since the indoor unit delivers air directly from the indoor air handler, heating experts recommend that the unit be placed in the room where heating and cooling are needed the most. Just make sure that it’s installed eight to 10 feet from the floor and that its location works well with the room’s other features—like the windows–to increase its overall aesthetic appeal.

Where to Place the Outdoor Unit

Like every AC system, a ductless mini-split AC has an outdoor unit that must be installed as well for it to work properly. When installing the outdoor unit, make sure that it’s in an area with plenty of open space so it’ll get the airflow it needs while remaining accessible for maintenance at the same time. Often, this can be done on a balcony, but you can also attach the outdoor unit to a wall so long as it’s supported by metal brackets. However, when installing the outdoor unit, make sure that it’s placed on a solid, firm surface so vibrations and noise can be controlled.
